If you have spent any time on the African Continent, it's likely you would have admired local Women dressed in custom made, stunning batiki outfits. East African produced batiki is incredibly distinct, featuring combinations of vibrant colours carrying striking patterns. Every design is unique as they are hand printed, and each colour is hand mixed and fabrics are overdyed multiple times to create unique colour mixes. This batiki has been produced in an incredible outdoor kitchen, heated and mixed in barrels over fires, and is made with beautifully fine cotton fabric and dyes sourced from the DR Congo.

Our collection of batiki has been hand made by the team from Adeline Batiki, from Tabora in central Tanzania. We are passionate about purchasing our fabrics directly, and about choosing intricate designs that stand out in the crowd. Each fabric is one of a kind, and to wear it is wearing a handmade piece of fabric art. We are passionate about supporting and investing in women owned businesses, and we are committed to long term partnerships working together. We also stock this batiki in our sister fabric store in Dar es Salaam, and on our global marketplace.

Our batiki jackets are cut to fit to a variety of body shapes. This jacket is one of kind, and is only one size. They sit lower across the back, and curve around the front to flatter all your curves. Sleeves are part of the jacket panels, so it can fit to your own shape.  Our batiki jackets feature Hong Kong seams on the back and along the shoulders, made from our own handcut Tanzanian batiki bias tape. All batiki jackets have been finished with hand stitching on the facing because we believe your jacket should be as beautiful inside as it is out. We want this piece of clothing to be treasured and worn for a long time to come. To wear, batiki jackets can be worn open, pinned closed or worn with a belt, they look amazing over dresses, shirts, with jeans or skirts.

Jacket measurements:

Length down the back, from neck to lowest edge - 28" 72cm

Width across from base of armpits - 26" 68cm

Sleeve width flat - 9" 23cm

Care instructions: as this is a handmade fabric, we encourage you to wear it all the time but to give it minimal washing. Wash in cold on a gentle cycle on its own, and dry jacket inside out. Warm iron. Batiki will soften with wash and wear, and may contain small wax remnant from the dyeing process.  As all batiki is hand made, it may contain small printing inconsistencies and small faults from production handling.

As we believe in ethical, slow and sustainable fashion we know that online shopping is not the easiest way to choose clothing. If you decide your jacket is not a good fit or the right style or fabric for you, we accept returns for jackets in as-new, unworn and unwashed condition. Please just contact us to arrange a return.

Thank you for choosing to shop small, and for investing in talented artisans producing handmade slow fabrics and small businesses in East Africa with us. Each ethically handmade item from East of Africa is produced as slow and sustainable fashion in our studio in Western Melbourne Australia.
