DR Congo Kivu Minova
Region: Minova (KASHENDA)/ Masisi
Located in the east of the country, just south of the equator sits the town of Minova. An important trading town for the Kivu Province, it is in close proximity to the Masisi Territory. Coffee has been cultivated in the Minova region for many years now, and the number of families taking up the faming practice is growing. In 2018 there were over 600 small holders, averaging two hectares each. Primarily, Congo was known for its Robusta varietal, however production of Arabica has started to exceed in volume. Harvest typically begins in late February, and continues though to May. The hand picked cherry is is pulped and washed at the local stations before being dried on raised beds. All farmers are provided training for proper crop cultivation. And further benefits are received by the local communities when profits are returned to social projects in the wider region.
Tasting Notes: Cups with toasty cocoa and malt moving to dried apricots and date fruit notes. Full inky body though a long toffee finish.
