We are passionate about supporting the creative micro businesses of the Maasai Women we work with in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. Our handcrafted Maasai ZIPPY bags have been produced to enable you to invest directly into the handcrafts of the Maasai Women we partner with.
Our Maasai Zippy Bags are made from a vibrant, traditional Maasai Shuka - the cloth worn by both Maasai men and Women. Our Maasai Shuka are acrylic, woven in Arusha Tanzania and directly traded from our sister fabric store in Dar es Salaam Tanzania.
Inside the Maasai Zippy Bag it is lined with a Tanzanian produced African cotton Nida Khanga. This is a traditional cloth used daily for covering yourself, for clothing, to wrap babies, and for sleeping.
The beaded earring has been made by the Maasai Women we work with. We know not all our customers will wear bright, Maasai beaded earrings so we have repurposed them to be decorative on our Maasai Zippy Bags.
Your purchase of this handcrafted Maasai Zippy bag will be directly reinvested into regular trade with the Maasai Women we work with. This investment will enable us purchase Maasai jewellery, to venture into more creative projects together, to provide micro finance for purchase of beads, to enable us to trade with more Maasai Women.
Please note your finished bag may vary slightly from the image. Maasai Zippy bags require up to a two week production time from time of order as we will be producing them to order. If you wish to have a custom bag made for you, please contact us to discuss your idea.
The purpose of our East African Marketplace is to invest in the talent of artisans and to trade in partnership with micro businesses throughout East Africa.
ZIPPY Bags measure 25 cm wide and 20cm high.
Care: spot clean only.
