Introducing our deliciously warm, deluxe quilted hooded Maasai Shuka Blanket jackets.
Handcrafted from Tanzanian produced traditional Maasai Shuka blankets. They are soft and warm, with a woven blended acrylic wool fabric.
The Shuka blanket grid has been quilted within with a bamboo/cotton batting. This is completely attached to the Maasai Shuka blanket - including the hood - to warm the jacket, and to minimise bulk.
Our jackets are lined with our direct trade African fabrics from our fabric store in Uhuru street, Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. The welt pockets are also lined with our African fabric.
Cuffs and hem are finished with a heavy weight black ribbing, and jackets have a black plastic 24" separating zipper.
SIZING
Our jacket collection has been created as a unisex sizing, so please read the measurements carefully to ensure a good fit.
Sleeve length to cuff: 68cm
Jacket body length from shoulder to bottom of ribbing: 73cm
Width when flat: 65cm
CARE
It is important you consider how to care for your jacket, to ensure longevity of delicate fabrics and quilting.
When possible, hand wash in cold water only.
If machine washing, wash in cold on a delicate or wool setting. Remove immediately from machine and carefully flatten jacket to original shape.
Dry flat out of direct sunlight.
Do not dry clean, do not tumble dry
Do not iron Maasai Shuka blanket. Shuka fabric may pill in areas of heavy use, use a pilling comb to gently remove.
SLOW FASHION - POLE POLE
Our slow fashion collection is entirely produced in Melbourne in partnership with our Tanzanian team and fabric store and East African sewing studio. We believe handcrafted clothing has the capacity to be ethical, unique and sustainable in every way. Good for the makers, good for the customers and good for the environment.
You will stand out in the crowd in our slow fashion collection.
Our clothing is produced in our zero waste studio, it is not made in a factory and is not mass produced. It is handmade slowly and carefully. Our production process avoids excess, we have the capacity to create as we need, and we can customise, alter and repair clothing.
By creating a slow fashion marketplace, we are connecting you to the East African origin and the makers. Everyone who works with East of Africa is a maker and producer. Your purchase invests directly in the makers, it's investing in artisans and small businesses in East Africa. 10% of all sales go directly into Maasai Women in business. Our team is providing training, our marketplace engages in regular and long term trade with artisans, we have created secure, safe long term employment, and our partnerships have enabled micro businesses to grow and flourish.
