The Turengerekawa Co-Op is comprised of around 30 members who each own around 500 coffee trees. The coffee is processed at a nearby wet mill. Co-Op members work hard at their small businesses, ensuring quality through selective picking of only ripe cherries and having the cherries delivered to the wet mill soon after harvesting. For the majority of the farmers, coffee pays for school fees, food and medical costs. Help and support in growing and quality techniques is provided by government agricultural agencies who run field trainingseminars for the farmers. Rwanda’s climate is unique in places due to high altitudes and topography creating a significantly cooler climate that allows for more complex flavours to develop in the coffee. Soils are volcanic loams, rich in the nutrient's coffee thrive in.
